Dental care FAQ
HOW MUCH DOES TREATMENT COST?DO I REALLY NEED TO FLOSS?
Yes! Most tooth decay and gum diseases occur between the teeth, caused by plaque and tartar build-up. There are also several alternative ways to effectively clean between teeth. Ask your dentist about them during your next visit.
WHEN DO YOU NEED ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?
There are many nerves and blood vessels called the ‘pulp’ inside each of your teeth. When a tooth is decayed or damaged, bacteria enter the tooth and cause infection, killing nerves and causing pain. Bacteria can also spread into surrounding gum tissues, causing abscesses, pain and swelling.
WHY DO I NEED FLUORIDE?
Fluoride strengthens the surface of your tooth and prevents cavities, especially when applied within 2 years of tooth eruption.
WILL MY TEETH BE WHITER
During the clean, your dentist will remove most of the surface stains on the teeth. However, the internal colour of teeth is not changed. If you’d like whiter teeth, take a look at our affordable teeth whitening treatments.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
AMALGAM AND COMPOSITE FILLINGS?
Amalgam is a mixture used for fillings made of silver, mercury and other metals. Composite is a plastic, resin-based material. We only use mercury-free filling materials.
IS TREATMENT AVAILABLE
Yes! We have several different ways to make your dental treatment comfortable and pain-free. We are happy to discuss your needs and preferences.
WHY DO I NEED AN X-RAY?
X-rays alert your dentist to important problems that aren’t visible on the surface. Only about 50% of your tooth is above the gum line, and cavities under fillings could go undetected until it’s too late.
